HOW DID IT HAPPEN?
Well, a couple of days ago, I turned 63. I remember as a kid, the only people who were 63, were old.I don’t feel old. I can’t imagine why I would think such a thing; I guess it is all relative. That is how Einstein described relativity to we mere mortals; he said that 5 minutes sitting with your girlfriend goes much quicker than 5 minutes in a hot frying pan. Old age depends upon your vantage point, I’m sure.
So we celebrated said event the same way we do with all birthdays in our family: loads of chocolate and every other thing that we should never eat. I’ve been on a “keto diet” for the last several months and I must say it is an easy diet on which to stay. Never really hungry and lots of tasty foods to eat without the old “carbo-cals” to keep me north of 300 lbs.
So time marches on. I hearken back to yesteryear and remember the notable birthdays and how they changed over the years. Back in my 20s I’d celebrate by “gettin’ good and drunk” and having the quintessential regrets the next day to start off the next year of my life with a bang. After I quit the “demon hootch,” I nearly gave up on birthdays altogether until I met my wife and we started a family. Kids love all the pagentry, eh? And so we began a whole new chapter to cakes, and presents, chockies, and fun….
Now in reflection, it seems like a long time ago and I do suddenly feel old. It is all relative; all depending on the context of the scene. The Bible says,
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. (James 4:14.)
To God, a life of 63 or 100 years is just a vapour. Just steam coming out of a kettle for a few seconds. God is eternal, so what is 1 hundred OR 1 million years to Him? Remember Einstein’s illustration? What if heaven is an infinite, neverending period of time where it is your best day multiplied by infinity? (It is). Still what about hell? How hot do the fires of hell be for them to be unbearable, if they never end?
Are you saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Jesus loved you enough to die for you on the cross, was buried and rose again the third day. I would urge you to please consider this and escape hell forever. (Acts 16:31, 1 Cor 15:1-4)
